Modbus Plus is a multi-purpose control networking solution combining high speed, peer-to-peer communication with easy installation to simplify applications and reduce installation costs. The global database feature makes it easy to broadcast data to all network nodes while bridges allow separate Modbus Plus networks to connect together, enabling virtually unlimited node count.

In a typical Modbus Plus network, embedded Modbus messages are sent over an RS485 communication link on a peer-to-peer, token-exchange type network. The Modbus Plus networks can be used with Modicon® Quantum™, Momentum™ and Premium™ PLCs.

Today's PCs are evolving toward the replacement of RS232 and other serial ports with several USB ports. Also, new PC notebooks no longer provide type-III PCMIA slots. Consequently, connecting a PC directly to products such as PLCs, HMI or remote equipment through a Modbus Plus network becomes increasingly difficult or impossible, thus depriving a user of basic functions such as programming or debugging applications.
